Walk Aims
To raise as much money as possible from sponsors and the general public by successfully bush walking the Australian Continent from its most northerly to southerly points.
The success of the walk will be measured not only by reaching of our financial target but by the level of safety and sheer enjoyment shared by all involved. Michael's determined dream as a bush walker and cancer awareness campaigner is to support the eradication of as many cancers as possible through research utilising the tremendous talents of the scientists, researchers and doctors who support the Cancer Council of Australia. Patient care is Michael's other passion with a portion of money raised to be is designated to provide enhanced services to cancer patients in treatment. Completing the picture is education – providing knowledge, prevention tactics and reassurance for the public.
The specific aims are:
■ To make a financial contribution of at least $1,000,000 to The Cancer Council of Australia.
■ Conduct a bush walk the length of the Australian mainland from its most northerly to most southerly points.
■ Raise awareness of the role, services, activities and importance of The CCA.
■ Provide knowledge and reassurance for families, loved ones, friends and communities touched by cancer through improved services.
■ Promote the activity of Bush Walking and Bush Walking Clubs as well as serving as a role model of responsible and safe conduct in the Australian bush.
■ To inspire others in the community to conduct further fund raising activities to help fight cancer.
Top Three Goals Of Project
1. To safely bush walk from Cape York to Wilsons Promontory in the company of many fellow walkers in thirteen months, thus promoting bush walking itself.
2. To raise $ 1,000,000 in total for the benefit of The Cancer Council of Australia. This amount is to be raised through a variety of donation reception points open to the public, businesses of all sizes, schools, bush walking clubs and a range of other community groups.
3. To form strong teams of voluntary helpers, sponsors and participants all working together with a sense of friendship and mutual respect for every one involved. This will also serve to promote awareness of Bush Walking Clubs and their role in the community.
