About Michael Mitchell
Michael has been an enthusiastic bush walker for the past 15 years. His treks have included The Australian Alps Walking Track from Walhalla in Victoria to Canberra in the year 2000, raising money for St Vincent's Hospital Cancer Services in Melbourne.
Apart from numerous walks through the Victorian high country and many sections of the AAWT, Michael has organized a number of private walking parties in several states of Australia.
Each of these have been great successes. Some of his fondest memories are of the bonds of mateship formed with his walking partners along such tracks as The Larapinta Trail in the Northern Territory and; several journeys into the mountain regions of Tasmania including The Western Arthurs.
Michael has been teaching at Catholic Regional College, North Keilor since 1992 after beginning his teaching career at his former school, Salesian College Chadstone.
He has held many coordinating positions and is committed to the ongoing teaching of communication and coping skills in young people.
Michael is very appreciative of the tremendous support given to him from his employer, CRC North Keilor, allowing him to make The Great Australian Cancer Bush Walk a reality. |
Apart from teaching, Michael has taken on a series of challenges over time. He has coached Australian Rules Football at both senior and junior levels.
It is in the sport of cricket Michael has been most prominent having coached a number of senior cricket clubs in Melbourne in various competitions.
Most notably, Michael held the position of senior coach of Hawthorn Monash University Cricket Club in the elite Victorian Premier Cricket Competition.
Michael is married to Marg and has a stepson, Daniel a recently qualified electrician. Marg's support, encouragement, and understanding have been pivotal to Michael's pursuit of bringing the walk together. Michael invites you to join him in realizing his dream of raising $1,000,000 to aid the fight against cancer in Australia.
