Schools Opportunities

The Great Walk 2007

The Great Australian Cancer Walk wants to buddy up with schools.

You too can get involved, have some fun, learn some 'stuff', and contribute to Michaels cause.

As a school teacher, Michael on a daily basis has the joy of seeing the passion of children and teenagers, as they get involved in various activities.

He could not resist the idea to involve the schools in some way in the walk.

Therefore, schools are invited to hold events of their own with support from the team here at The Great Australian Cancer Bush Walk Support office.

We have some ideas based on the concept of embracing children's creativity, their knowledge of the Australian bush and how to live a fun, healthy lifestyle with their family and friends.

 school kids

Maybe you would like to;

Get a group of school friends and your family together and do something you find fun that is linked in some way to;

  • The great Australian bush land and walking
  • Healthy lifestyles and
  • Raising as much money as you can.

Walk Your School

Either as an individual or a group or a class, walk the sport fields for a determined number of laps for sponsorship as a donation to the walk.

Crazy Hair Day

Get your Principal's permission and have a 'Crazy Hair Day' with a gold coin donation.

Have A Disco

Dance to your latest favourite singer and maybe hold a few fun events throughout the night.

Movie Nights

Get your friends together with that film you have been waiting to see.  Put on some food and ask for a donation.

We are sure you can think of other things to do.

When Michael gets back, he would love to visit your school and thank you for your donation.

Michael has many photos already we are compiling into a series of educational fun quizzes for the 13 months.

We are hope the children will like them and the videos from the track with Michael… and have all those questions answered!

Langwarrin Park Primary School $300.00

Message "GO for it Michael.

All the kids at Langy Park are following your efforts. We are having events at the school throughout the year to raise some money to help.

We have an annual walkathon and this year we are turning it into a bush walk with the kids and teachers wearing backpacks and bushy hats etc. It will be fun. Good luck and keep going we are all thinking of you at Langy Park".

King Lake School held a disco and raised $400 for Michael. Thank you!

Holy Cross School is holding a walkathon on the last day of school term.  270 children are taking part in a mock 'Michael bushwalk'.

Watch out for their donation total so far it is just under $1000. Wow! We almost can't wait to hear the news!

Lisieux House from Whitefriars College, in Donvale. A big thank you to Amanda Hourigan, Head of House of Lisieux, at Whitefriars College in Donvale.  Amanda and 25 Yr 7students and 2 Yr 12 students raised an impressive donation of $826.00 for Michael at a walkathon.

Thank you Amanda you did a great job organising the event and getting the money to us.

To the parents and friends of the students who certainly donated lots as the boys passionately walked many, many laps, learning about the Australian landmarks Michael is walking through.

AND a big thank you from Lisa for making her so welcome at Lisieux House.  It was a great morning and I enjoyed meeting each of you. I am also looking forward to hearing about the movie lesson; free dress day and joining you at the sausage sizzle in Term 3 that you have planned.
